Eliora woke up this morning feeling shaky and sick. An hour later came the time honored tradition of expelling everything in your stomach into a bowl. Then she promptly fell asleep.
On a typical day Eliora is my helper (to tell the truth she is usually a better 'mom' than I am). Eliora is the reason we CAN homeschool and why we can occasionally make it to church on time. She helps set tables, gets cereal going in the morning, finds shoes, reads books to the little ones all without being asked. It is in that kids nature to nurture. On days she gets sick I go into overdrive and count the days until she gets better (nurturing is not in my nature).
We took her to the doctor and found out she either has a severe stomach virus or the swine flu. Great. We were told to keep her on a liquid diet, let her get lots of rest, and disinfect the entire house including throwing away toothbrushes and washing all the sheets on the beds.
Normally this would be rough day. Normally. Enter kid number two. Audrey is our introvert. She is am awesome sister but usually is the one who will color by herself or look at books for long periods of time. This morning however she got up and asked if Eliora was sick. She then proceeded to make pancakes for the other two while I made a doctor's appointment. She asked me to measure ingredients (just add water) but did the rest herself. She has since gotten the baby applesauce while I was scrubbing the floor were earlier stomach contents had fallen, turned on a new movie while I was starting laundry and made everyone eggs for lunch. She has cleaned up after herself and right now has Abbey sitting on her lap with a bottle of milk while watching Nim's Island. To be honest I didn't know Audrey knew how to work the stove. (I was paying close attention in the background.)
In short, my kids are perfect.

Your kids ARE perfect!
I'm sorry Eliora is sick, and that it's probably going to be a lot of work for the next few days (and that's only IF the other kids don't get it!)
Wish I could be there to help!
Sorry to hear about Eliora. Maynor was sick last week with the flu and last night I got it. You are very lucky to have such wonderful kids. Hope Eliora feels better and that no one else gets it.
wow! go audrey! hope you don't all have to go through it, no fun being sick.
did i tell you we have 2 neighbor kids named eliora? (along our sidewalk)
Not bad at all! With my VAST (only 14 years) knowledge of childrearing I can honestly say that I didn't know my kids were paying attention to what I do but they do. They are also more capable than what we give them credit for.
Post your email somewhere! Hard to respond about turning 30. Hardest birthday I had. And then I got up the day after and used the same antiperspirant, drove the same car, had the same scriptures by my bed...and life continued.
Check out Flylady.com. Organization comes in small steps. 15 minutes cleaning one drawer, 15 minutes reading scriptures, 10 minutes running through the house gathering 27 things to get out of the house. It took 29 years to accomplish what you have.
Your dishes aren't done and there's syrup sticking to your floor? Your closet of linens also contains a game of Sorry and a peanut butter sandwich? So what.
Audrey can make breakfast. Eliora can share her testimony with more conviction than you know. They can both tell you about the First Vision. Sadie knows Heavenly Father loves her. Abigail can climb into the pot and pan cupboard.
Congratulations. You've made it to 30. And next year you'll be 31. They syrup will be cleaned up by then.
Love the Halloween background!
I second everything Nancy said... now I don't have to type as much!
