Have I ever mentioned that I own a book called Scripture Study? Mine is the Book of Mormon version but I'm pretty sure there is an Old and New Testament one out there somewhere. Basically I love this book. It explains all the parts of the scriptures that I basically don't get plus has cool quotes and activities. It is perfect for morning readings and family home evenings and since today was a little crazy I flipped it open to Alma Ch. 12
This is the girls after reading how we are judged by our words, works, and thoughts. We decided that thoughts are the hardest to control and sometimes there are sneaky little ones that get in our brains without us knowing. We started the night with a clear glass of water to represent our brains but added food coloring for all those thoughts we see and hear but don't mean to, such as magazine covers in grocery stores where the people are immodest.
Then we read a quote by a Bishop Peterson who said the way to get those thoughts out are by praying morning and night, doing daily scripture study, doing one kind act a day, and working on one commandment we are not so good at. With each good thing we added a drop of bleach to our watery brain and presto! we were clean again.
We then decided to make a goal to do each of those things. Our commandment we will be working on as a family is the sabbath day - or in other words trying to get to church on time with every child actually wearing their shoes.
