Simplicity

It's been a crazy week. Eliora had a field trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science, I took five kids camping out at Bueschner State Park with a lot of homeschoolers and no hubby, we cleaned out our garage, went to a baptism, and tried to stream conference while cleaning our office.

This evening Ben came out dressed for priesthood. Not sure how but I had completely forgotten about it. I really didn't want him to go. I wasn't complaining about it but I wanted him to stay. I wanted help with the kids. I wanted some quiet time while he read to them tonight. But at six fifty he was out the door.

That was when Audrey took baby Hannah outside in her push chair and sang songs to her while swinging (Hannah loves to watch them swing). No one asked her to do it.
Eliora took Sadie upstairs and showed her how to make a bookmark with fabric. I had no idea what they were even doing until they came down with the finished product.
Abbey helped me tear basil for linguine pasta while singing me songs.
When I called that dinner was almost ready they all came in and helped clear the table, set the dishes, and get the little ones served up. I never had to tell them. We sat and Audrey sang us the song she had made up while being outside. Eliora helped Sadie show us her bookmark. We decided the leftover chocolate cake was in order for dessert. Everyone helped rinse dishes and we went outside to enjoy it. No one whined when I said it was time for bed.

I wouldn't have traded tonight for all the quiet time in the world.

Aw... I think they knew their survival depended on a night like this :) That is so cute.

Wow. I'd have kids if they behaved like that. All the time. And I'll need it in writing, of course.

Some times they can surprise you and do things you would never dream of (of course Ben did things that were more like nightmares).
