Abigail Naomi Davis

At eight o' clock we felt the contractions. Both of us had gotten 3 hours of sleep the night before and had gone on a bike ride that day. The kids had just gone down. We went for a walk. They timed perfectly at 12 minutes apart and stayed there. I figured we were in for a long night. We called my mother-in-law who sweetly came over and fell asleep on our uncomfortable futon. We layed down. Ben fell asleep. I lay on my side, hands and knees, side again, and did some pretty amazing yoga poses while trying to rest and time contractions. The suckers were not going down at all. Still a perfect 12 minutes apart. At one in the morning I stood up to go to the bathroom. (At kid number four I cannot believe I didn't try getting up and walking around before that.) I felt a swoosh sensation and then a lot of pain. Contration....1 minute.....contration....1 minute....contration....30 seconds. I woke up Ben. We ran out of the house and drove to the birth center. We called the midwife on the way. Halfway there I felt the need to push. We beat the midwife to the birth center. I REALLY had to push. Ben was trying to stay calm while telling me to wait just a little longer. The midwife (Katherine Grimes......amazing woman) pulled up. We got in and she had the nurse start to fill the bath while she checked me out. Yep, ready to go. I really wanted to deliver in water however (hurts way less) so I breathed and waited for the bath to go half full. Stepped in, had a baby. At four o'clock, after not naming her, and eating a delicious chocolate cake the nurse (Trish) from the birth center provided we walked in the door of our home. Everyone was still asleep. It felt like we went to Babies R Us and picked out the latest model from aisle twelve. I went to sleep. Ben got to take care of everything else. Poor guy.

Today she is the imp, the mischievious little girl who smiles while taking off her diaper and eating the sweets you told her not to get into. She does not always sleep through the night or take naps when I want her to. She takes about 3 days to get use to anyone else. She also gives you hugs on demand, sings, does everything her sister Sadie does, and is already showing cooking and art talent. She was worth every second. Happy Birthday Abbey. We can't imagine our family without you.

Abbey is a girl that is going to surprise us all with the things she will accomplish. She is such a large spirit in such a small body. When she smiles the whole world seems brighter. When she is being a brat, a cloud hangs over all those around her. She was meant to be a joy to her father, but will be a leader to the rest of the world. She will definitely have to prove herself being the younger sister of 3 incredibly bright, and beautiful sisters, and I bet she gives them all a run for their money. One of these days the world is going to know who Abigail N. Davis is, and what she stands for. Mom and Dad, be very proud, and just remember that where much is given, much is expected. You guys are going to have your hands full. Abbey, I love you, and am so proud that you are my granddaughter.

Happy Birthday, Abbey. Having turned 2, you now have permission to be "terrible," not that you needed it!! ;)

You left out the part that my Mom didn't even know you were gone until she heard the baby cry!

Such a cute post.
