Our Texas summer is in full bloom with daily heat indexes of 117 degrees. These temperatures would melt our northern friends, but in Texas they say, “Its time to camp!” Which is what we did, we took our 5 girls and slightly hefty beagle to Fort Davis. We got there in the evening and the girls set out with their friend to fashion spears after the latest styles of wood elves. These outdoor creatures, thriving in nature, where slightly shock to learn that Dad had intentionally “forgotten” to pack a tent. They settled in the outdoor beds, thinking of scorpions and the large Javelina that keeps running through the camp, and looked up at the amazing West Texas sky, with all the stars in full view. They fell to sleep counting satellites jumping over them. The air was cool, temperatures fell to the 60’s, and the Javelina didn’t cuddle. It was a good night, minus Audrey using Hannah as a pillow and Sadie sleeping sideways, because the next day was….

HOT, HOT and we went bouldering at a picnic location south of Fort Davis. By the end of the climb up and down, ½ miles with ~200’ elevation, the beagle sounded like a broken 18-wheeler, kids were being lost in caves looking for shade, and the 4-year old that had been carried up and down thought it was easy and was running around. All in all, it was a great get away!

Totally Awesome!!! Reminds me of when we went to Lost Maple and seeing the incredible stars in the middle of the night. I saw constellations that only existed on paper before. Your girls are SO fortunate :-D

You are brave...I would only camp in winter in Texas, it was just too hot in spring, summer and autumn :)
